Cape House | Home and Hospitality | Amelia Island Florida

You love them. You really love them (and so do we)! Your supportive response to our first two Meet the Founders posts gives us #allthefeels, and we’re excited to keep this train going with our third founder: Wes Hinton, Tiffany’s husband. Never met him, but seem familiar? Probably because he’s Lance’s less vocal counterpart on those late-night store build out Instastories. Now’s the time to formally introduce him below:

ON CAPE HOUSE…

What’s your role at Cape House?
“You know, the typical position of bookkeeper, build out supervisor, and day (night) laborer. The beautiful thing about entrepreneurship is we all get to wear a different hat every day based on the need.”

What’s your vision for Cape House?
“I’m a terrible visionary. My strength is taking an end goal and figuring out how to get there. With that said, after witnessing a mentor do the same thing, I’ve had this desire to build a company that financially fuels our ministry-related giving. In a nutshell, to use a business for Kingdom work.”

KEEPING IT LIGHT…

Last three photos on your phone?
“My jeep with 16’ trim boards tied to the top of it; a selfie montage from my daughter Hannah Grace; and a screenshot of (yet another) tool I needed for the build out.”

Most recent read? Favorite book?
“If by ‘read’ you mean ‘listened to’ it was A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I log a lot of windshield time to-and-from-and-all-around Jacksonville for work, so I’m one of Audible.com’s favorite customers! My favorite book is the one that really showed me what living out authentic Faith looked like: If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg.”

Who would play you in a movie of your life?
“A chubbier Vince Vaughn – and it would most definitely be a comedic action flick, if such a thing exists.”

Favorite sandwich?
“All of them, unless it has a pickle on it. If you make me pick one, it would be the pimento cheese sandwich served at Augusta National Golf Club.”

Favorite room in your home?
“When you marry an interior designer, you pretty much give up dominion of your home. My things are relegated to the garage, but even that has had Cape House inventory stocked in it for months! I’m hoping for a man-cave one day, but I’m not holding my breath. Ha!”

Favorite season?
“I love the first week of April. Things are starting to green up, it’s Masters week, opening day of baseball season, my wedding anniversary, and it’s always close to Easter.”

Favorite holiday?
“I’m not a huge holiday person, but I’d probably pick Easter. The resurrection of Jesus Christ frames everything I do, so it’s a great time to reflect on how that event gives me purpose. It’s also kind of like the Super Bowl for churches, and I love seeing people come to Christ for the first time or meet Him in a way that’s new and different.”

LET’S DIG A LITTLE DEEPER…

What trait do you like the most about yourself?
“The ability to see a goal and draw the line, regardless of how circuitous, to get there.”

What trait has gotten you in the most trouble?
“I’ve been told I can be too…(ahem)…direct. My inability to sugarcoat things has probably caused some unneeded strife.”

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
“‘I trust you’ from my wife.”

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
“I had a mentor share a quote from CS Lewis that says ‘Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.’ From a guy who treated my relationship with God as moderately important, it drove home the fact that being a Christ follower can’t be just another trait or activity in my life. It’s either THE driving factor in all decisions, or it’s nothing.”

What do you love about being a part of your family?
“The unconditional love. The older I get, the more broken I realize I am. I think that’s part of God’s sanctification in my life. The more flawed I realize I am, the more I appreciate the love showered on me by my Creator and by my family.”

While Wes’ll maintain his full-time job when Cape House opens, you’ll be sure to run into him in-store here and there. Don’t hesitate to say hello – and ask him about his unfortunate run-in with a nail gun during buildout. (As the family saying goes, ‘It’s not a Hinton project unless somebody bleeds!”)

Last, but not least, next week, we’re introducing you to Lance’s wife, Lauren, or as he likes to call her, “Bob.”
